Rubbings 1993-2024

REFLECTIONS OF THE AMERICAN LANDSCAPE

For over three decades, Zach has traveled the United States from Chicago to Hawaii and across the American West, making graphite rubbings from historical plaques and markers. Extracted from the landscape, these poetic phrases express, reshape and reinterpret hidden meaning immortalized in these often overlooked markers of important times, places and events from America’s contested history. The extensive library of rubbings is available to view upon request.

Other short series of rubbings have also been created in Europe.
